Hydraulic Erosion: A Survey

چکیده

Terrain morphology has been on the radar of Computer Graphics for more than twenty years and various techniques for its modeling have been presented. These approaches range from fractal and multifractal surface generation to physically-based models of erosion and weathering. From all the weathering phenomena that can be observed in Nature, the hydraulic erosion has the major visual importance. We will focus on hydraulic erosion in our presentation and we will describe various techniques which enhance this important clue to the realistic terrain model generation. Models of a cellular automata-based weathering will be described, techniques simulating soil transportation in liquid, aging, and a generalized solution to modeling hydraulic erosion using ideas from fluid mechanics will be shown. The simulations show the terrain morphogenesis and can be used for animations as well as for static scene models generation. Sediment Erosion in Hydraulic Turbines

Sediment erosion not only reduces efficiency and life of hydropower turbines but also causes problems in operation and maintenance. Several factors are responsible for this erosion in hydro turbine components. This paper presents the sediment erosion types in hydraulic turbines and their components based upon an extensive literature review and the field observation at Cahua hydropower plant, Pe...

Investigating the Influence of Filter Uniformity Coefficient and Effective Pore Size on Critical Hydraulic Gradient and Maximum Erosion of Dispersive and Non-dispersive Samples

Filter is one of the main components of embankment dams. By a simple but effective performance, filter protects the dam against erosion and soil scouring in impervious core caused by leakage (piping) and makes it safe. Interaction between filter and erodible base soil is a complex phenomenon which is dependent upon several factors, and has challenged researchers for better understanding the fil...

Hydraulic erosion of cohesive riverbanks

This study identifies and assesses the controls on hydraulic erosion of cohesive riverbanks on a 600-m reach of an urban ephemeral stream with active bank erosion. We examined hydraulic bank erosion by separating estimated bank shear stress into four properties: magnitude, duration, event peak, and variability. The values of these independent variables were used as a bank erosion context at thr...

An Analysis on Soil Properties on Predicting Critical Hydraulic Gradients for Piping Progression in Sandy Soils

An Analysis on Soil Properties on Predicting Critical Hydraulic Gradients for Piping Progression in Sandy Soils By Tammy Jacobson, Master of Science Utah State University 2013 Major Professor: Dr. John Rice Department: Civil and Environmental Engineering Piping is a form of internal erosion in which soil particles are eroded at a seepage exit location due to the forces imposed on the particles ...

On the modelling of internal soil erosion

Suffusion is the process whereby fine particles are moved locally an transported through a coarse layer. This is a bulk erosion, which corresponds to a source term in the mass balance equations. This bulk erosion is counter intuitive, as erosion is basicaly an interfacial process. We suggest a framework within suffusion in a clayey sand can be viewed as a clay/water interface erosion at the mic...
